ACCIONA, a member of the ACEX association through its Infrastructure Maintenance Area, has repurposed its highway maintenance vehicles and adapted them to carry out disinfection work on the streets of various municipalities of Guadalajara province, including its capital.
ACCIONA has used two of its saline spraying lorries to clean the roads with a water and bleach treatment with the aim of eliminating the virus on public highways. The operators carrying out this service have been equipped with all the necessary PPE (gloves, facemasks, goggles and disposable overalls). ACCIONA can therefore respond to various requests from municipal mayors in the Alcarria region, following the proposal by the Castilla-La Mancha provincial government office and with the prior authorisation of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda.
ACCIONA has strong links to the areas in which it carries out its activities and adapting its machinery to carry out disinfection work in the current healthcare emergency situation is helping to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Public highways maintenance, an essential public service in the state of emergency
Highways are one of the critical infrastructures in this state of emergency. Some 12,000 maintenance workers continue to work during these exceptional times to maintain our mobility and ensure the transport of healthcare and food supplies that our country needs at this time, as well as the various disinfection tasks of our public highways. The Association of Infrastructure Maintenance and Operation Companies (ACEX) is reminding us that these workers are providing a basic public service to ensure communications on the road network. The sector has strengthened the safety measures needed to protect the occupational health of maintenance operators following the declaration of the state of emergency to manage the situation caused by COVID-19.
ACCIONA has more than 30 years of experience providing comprehensive maintenance services for highway, hydro and environmental infrastructures, maintaining these assets on behalf of their owners and providing safer, more convenient and efficient traffic conditions. Through the Infrastructure Maintenance Area of its Construction business, the company operates more than 1,500 km of motorways, 8,200 km of conventional highways, 3,000 km of winter highways and 180 km of tunnels, ensuring that the environment is protected in all of its activities.
ACEX represents more than 85% of the highway maintenance market (empresas asociadas en Acex), with a clear dedication and firm commitment to serve society, maintaining our infrastructures as efficiently and sustainably as possible, laying the foundations for the social and economic development of the country.
